Imagine Dragons (1) - Week #30

The only window of opportunity I have to blog is from about 5:30-7 p.m. if dinner is late, since I «have to enjoy the day» and so on. So my next posts will be delayed 99% until the start of the school year. I apologize for that.

Comments on debuts:
It is with great guilt that I put this is red. I would have much preferred Battle Symphony or Talking To Myself as the next Linkin Park song, as One More Light is a rather boring one. The lyrics contrast with the situation in hand, but they are nonetheless good. However, the song drags on, and I can't find a steady beat in it.

The second debut is currently my favourite song out of them all. Back To You is so freaking catchy! Louis Tomlinson and Bebe Rexha kill in their verses, and Digital Farm Animals makes the song so much fun to listen to. I'm glad that this song debuted so fast, and I hope that it can make an impact on radio.

Who cares if one more blurb goes out
At #1, after half a year's wait, we have Imagine Dragons - Believer. When I first heard this song on Alt Nation, I was sure that is wouldn't make an impact on Hits 1 because it was much too alternative. I have yet to hear it on my local radio if you can believe it. I am still thrilled that it squeezed in a week at #1 in its tenure.

There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back seems to be a blogging favourite. It is still mediocre in my opinion, and I will rejoice when it finally leaves the top 5.

We have two top 5 entrants. Slow Hands is still good, but not as good as when I first heard it. Body Like A Back Road is getting worse every time I hear it, and if it hits #1 I will scream.

Now Or Never is, indeed, very popular, but it definitely not Top 10-worthy in my opinion. Halsey has done better.

It Ain't Me should have lasted a bit longer. Peaking at #4 is not that good for a Selena Gomez song. I hope that if Fetish gets on here it could do a better job, as it is already popular on my local radio.

It seems that every debut from last week made a massive jump except Wild Thoughts. That is exactly what I hoped for.

I expected a larger jump from Heavy, but in the top 20 is okay. That's What I Like is jumping in and out and I don't care.

It's a miracle that Lights Down Low is lasting so long in the #25-30 section considering its age.

I was extremely surprised when I heard Spyder Harrison announce the #45 song to kick off the countdown, but I am not disappointed.

I was not surprised, however, when I heard Good Time Good Life and Overwhelming as the exits. They were popular nowhere else and were both awful songs, and I will certainly not remember them in a year or two.

Top 20 score: 55% okay

Top 5:
1. Back To You
2. Sooner Or Later
3. Champion
4. Lights Down Low
5. Despacito

Bottom 5:

5. Bad Liar

Most missed countdown song: Kongos - Come With Me Now

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Imagine Dragons - Whatever It Takes

Shawn Mendes (3) - Week #29

Sorry for the delay. I was with my cousins this weekend, so I had absolutely no time to even check the #1 song. We did have a bit of a countdown shuffle this week. Most of it was not necessary, some of it was downright frustrating, although a few good things happened. The exits were okay, but the debuts range from awesome to awful.

Comments on debuts
I talked about Wild Thoughts last week.

Champion is amazing! I finally heard it on Hits 1 yesterday. The guitar intro is well done, and the verses are spot-on, but my favourite part is the chorus. Fall Out Boy hit all the right notes, and I love the rock feel. Fall Out Boy never disappoint.

I can find no flaws in Good Times but there is nothing that leaves an imprint after I listen to the song. Dirty Laundry is much better. I know that All Time Low can do much better, but they have always written good lyrics, and this one is no exception. I can't say much otherwise.

Hit-Bound

Bebe Rexha - The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody) (DEBUT)
All-American Rejects - Sweat (DEBUT)
Andy Grammer - Give Love
The Chainsmokers - Honest
Paramore - Hard Times
Kesha - Praying
Louis Tomlinson/Bebe Rexha/Digital Farms Animals - Back To You (DEBUT)
Julia Michaels - Uh Huh
Harry Styles - Two Ghosts (DEBUT)
Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens - Reminding Me
Macklemore/Skylar Grey - Glorious
Imagine Dragons - Thunder

Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry
Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl

So Praying is is purple on five blogs out of six. I realized that I had to give this more listens. I grew into this one. The chorus is powerful, her voice is amazing, but the verses drag on a bit. I feel as if this song could break at any moment. But it is still a great song.

With Cut To The Feeling gone, there is no pink on Hit-Bound! Honest is orange, but it would be red if Cut To The Feeling would still be here.

I won't forget the good blurbs
So, out of four great/good songs out of five in the top 5, the only bad song had to hit #1. I did expect this, this song is really popular. But it deserves much less than it got.

Believer has been hanging out too much in the #2-4 range. It should really hit #1 as soon as possible before it misses its chance. It is a great song.

Otherwise, the top 10 hasn't been witnessing much activity.

I don't understand why Weak is making comebacks. It should really leave the top 20 for good before it drives me insane.

We have two extremely strange drops this week from Justin Bieber. They are both in the top 5 everywhere else. I'm not complaining about I'm The One, but Despacito is so underrated! It has 2.7 billion views on youtube and can't even reach the top 10 here.

Malibu dropping out of the top 30 is fantastic. Redbone jumping into the top 30 is great, too. I grew into this song after millions of listens. The electronic instruments are very catchy, and the voice does not disturb me. It is actually pretty cool. The song stays in my head for hours after I listen to it.

I votes 25 more times for Lights Down Low, and it is still in the #26-28 area. At this point, staying there would satisfy me.

Nice to see that Sooner Or Later lasted another week and got out of the bottom 5. I believe its peak is #34, and if it left at that peak it would show just how underrated it was, just like Don't Leave, whose peak was #35.

Crying In The Club really was a flop after all.

I didn't realize that Sign Of The Times was this low until I heard it at #41 yesterday. It did absolutely nothing on this chart and might not even make the year-end list. How absurd!

Top 20 score: 54% okay

Top 5:
1. Sooner Or Later
2. Champion
3. Lights Down Low
4. Despacito
5. Feels

Bottom 5:
1. Wild Thoughts
2. Bad Liar
3. Pay That Song
4. I'm The One
5. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back

Most missed countdown song: Nick Jonas - Bacon
Throwback pick of the week: Linkin Park - Numb
#1 recommedation for Hits 1: Hey Violet - Hoodie

Zedd/Alessia Cara (4) - Week #28

I apologize for the delay. A combination of stuff.

I must say, the countdown really has been on a down the past week. Everything that happened was so boring. We had some sort of activity this week, however, and not all of it good. Actually, most of it horrible. Mainly because of two awful Hit-Bound debuts. I will finally review Wild Thoughts, for those who have been asking me, even though normally I don't review Hit-Bound debuts. However, the countdown was not limited to only disappointing events: let's start with our exits.

Biggest drop of the week: James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go (-12)
Biggest jump of the week: Niall Horan - Slow Hands; Miley Cyrus - Malibu (+10)

Comments on debuts:
Redbone is easily the strangest song I have heard all year. It is so confusing. I have yet to completely formulate an opinion on it as I fell distant every time I hear it, I cannot catch on to anything. For now it is in dark blue.

This is one of the first times when I have seen Hits 1 modify a song. Yeah, they did edit Quavo and Lunchmoney Lewis out of songs, but this alteration is major. They completely changed the song. Instead of a mellow song, we now have an artificial beat that does not go at all with the song. Remixes to a song almost never work. We have the select few who work, but this is not one. There is the same beat all throughout the song. Don't get me wrong, Bruno Mars's voice is still great. However, David Guetta's remix messes everything up, so that the beat contrasts too much with the song.

Hit-Bound:
4. Paramore - Hard Times
1. Macklemore/Skylar Grey - Glorious
8. Julia Michaels - Uh Huh
10. The Chainsmokers - Honest
6. All Time Low - Good Times
12. Carly Rae Jepsen - Cut To The Feeling
9. Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry (DEBUT)
7. Andy Grammer - Give Love
??. Fall Out Boy - Champion (no opinion, because I never heard it)
13. DJ Khaled/Rihanna/Bryson Tiller - Wild Thoughts (DEBUT)
11. Kesha - Praying (DEBUT)
5. Imagine Dragons - Thunder
2. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl
3. Shawn Hook featuring Vanessa Hudgens - Reminding Me

I will review Sorry Not Sorry and Praying if (optimism) they debut the countdown. Right now I will take time to review Wild Thoughts, since people have been asking and I have been lacking time. So here we go.

It starts off with the typical rapper's introduction, screaming their name, since they are, the best. However, DJ Khaled also says «We The Best music!». So before we even hear a glimpse of the song, DJ Khaled lets us know that this is his song, he produced it. Why? I don't know. But whetever. There is also some guitar in the song, that alone would have been fine, but with DJ Khaled's intro contrasts too much. Then Rihanna comes in and half raps. I can get how you could like Rihanna's rapping, she is similar to others. But personally, Rihanna has declined significantly from Diamonds, Pon De Replay, and all her good songs. Personally, I find I stopped liking her music when Sia stopped writing for her. Rihanna, back to the song, actually has an average rap voice. Not too bad. However, I expected her to at least sing a bit. When I first heard this song, I said: «Okay, so Rihanna decided to do an intro for herself, saying her name or whatever» but then I realized that she was already starting the strange lyrics. And when she rapped throughout the whole song, I was seriously disappointed. Rihanna can do better. And then Bryson Tiller enters with the typical rap voice. So the main reason I don't like this song is that is sounds like a typical rap song, yet they want is to be a bit poppy or classic, and that sounds a bit awkward. Oh! And there's also the guitar riff, which is a complete copy. I mean, it's okay. But I can't give it to the song since it is a exact copy of Santana. I could have literally done DJ Khaled's job in this song in half an hour. So this song is a bit lazy. I think I covered everything. I did go on a bit of a rant, though. Sorry. But there you have it, the reasons why I cannot stand Wild Thoughts.

Redblurb
Honestly, I did not expect Stay to return to #1. But I will take it over Shawn Mendes any day. Unfortunately, the latter dropped less than I hoped. Otherwise, we have the same songs in the top 6 for three weeks running, so I have nothing else to say.

At #8, #9, and #10, we have three top 10 re-entries, which I will take, no problem. Our top 10 exits include Body Like A Back Road, happily, Paris, which thankfully dropped quite a bit, and a leap out of the top 20 by Say You Won't Let Go. That song had its time. It is still good, but it is getting old.

However, Malibu, Strip That Down, and Most Girls entering the top 20 was definitely expected but not appreciated.

Sadly, Despacito barely missing the top 10 is frustrating. This song is extremely overrated on Hits 1, easily the most frustrating station. When I turn on the radio, there is a 90% chance that Despacito will play within 15 minutes. But I have yet to even hear Despacito on Hits 1.

I just realized that Issues was in the top 20 last week. Seriously?

So I jinxed Crying In The Club last week, so now it dropped a few spots. This song really is flopping, though not as much as Down, which was such a disaster in airplay, I heard it once total.

I am getting tired of voting for Lights Down Low 15 times per week. It should be higher! However, not many people agree with me. Whatever. Not many people agreed with me on I'm The One and it still flopped.

Sooner Or Later was such a flop that I literally stopped wasting my time voting for it. It is easily the most underrated song this year.

We had to go all the way to #28 to get two masterpieces.

Selena Gomez's Fetish did not help my opinion on Bad Liar.

As for our exits, I Don't Wanna Live Forever left! This was my reaction:

Image result for happy face

And Swalla left also, which it deserved.

Top 20 score: 54% okay

Top 5:
1. Sooner Or Later
2. Lights Down Low
3. Despacito
4. Crying In The Club
5. Stay

Bottom 5:
1. Bad Liar

3. Play That Song
4. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back
5. Overwhelming

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Selena Gomez - Fetish
Throwback pick of the week: PSY - Gangnam Style (don't kill me)
Most missed countdown song: DNCE - Cake By The Ocean

Album Review #4: Imagine Dragons - Evolve

Sorry I am late for this. I considered not doing this, but why not? This took too long, since I was preoccupied with the farm. Today, I took it relaxed since I am rather tired. I only came home at 2:00.

Track 1: I Don't Know Why (10)
I find this is a calmer version of Believer. The beat is great, and the song overall is really fun. The pre-chorus is extremely powerful. The baseline is exhilarating. The chorus is extremely catchy. And the lyrics are pretty good, too.

Track 2: Whatever It Takes (10)
In this song, the rapping is spot-on, in terms that is is not too repetitive, and not annoying. Dan Reynolds has a great rap voice. However, he still showcases his talent to change pitch powerfully, in the chorus. The hook gives a break from the power, but it is still greatly done, because it tells us clearly that something big is coming up.

Track 3: Believer (9)
I loved this song, because I was glad that Imagine Dragons returned with their rock style. I sort of outgrew this one, though. It still has masterful drumming. However, the screaming has gotten mildly annoying. The lyrics chosen are spectacular, though.

Track 4: Walking The Wire (6.5)
This one is a bit too slow in my opinion. The chorus is still great, but the verses are annoying, since this is not Imagine Dragons' style, so it feels a bit awkward. The chorus, however, gives back points because of the rock feel that I love.

Track 5: Rise Up (9.5)
This song is more of a throwback from Night Visions, because it is more «peaceful» than Believer, I Don't Know Why, and so on. I absolutely adore the songwriting. Although the screaming in the chorus could be a bit better, the verses make up for it. This song is extremely meaningful.

Track 6: I'll Make It Up To You (5.5)
As in Walking The Wire, the verses are a bit awkward, since I am not used to Imagine Dragons with this type of music. The chorus is similar, but I like it for some reason, I don't know why. However, it is a bit too short.

Track 7: Yesterday (2)
The chorus is downright painful to listen to. The screaming is awful. The verses are rather interesting though. I fear that Imagine Dragons are changing too much. There is one electronic instrument that comes in at the second chorus that kills me.

Track 8: Mouth Of The River (0)
The lyrics are too repetitive. Dan Reynolds sings too high. He shouldn't use his falsetto, is sounds awful. And the, what, a sitar maybe, throughout the songs gives me a heartache.

Track 9: Thunder (9)
This song saved the last 2/3 of the album from total disaster. The song is super catchy. Nobody tries too hard, not the producers, not Dan Reynolds, not anybody. That's what makes this song so simple and therefore hard to dislike. I can see how it could be repetitive or how the voice in the chorus could be annoying, but it isn'to to me.

Track 10: Start Over (5)
The lyrics saved this song. Otherwise, it is too repetitive and the music is rather strange. Starting off a song well is key, and the first verse is just awful. I feel as if he is just telling us something just like whatever, did you hear this, like a casual conversation and not a song, for goodness sake! The chorus is fine though and the music is fun.

Track 11: Dancing In The Dark (0)
Oh boy! What is this trash? First of all, I had to turn the volume to max to hear something. Ten I realized that that beat was not my cat batting the litter, but part of the actual song. The autotune is horribly used. The song never changed volume, range, or even words throughout the whole song.

In all, I expected better. The pre-released singles are great, but most of the rest is awful.

Top 3:
1. I Don't Know Why
2. Whatever It Takes
3. Rise Up

This post looks rushed. Not an absurd claim: I am late, and I have very little blurbs. However, nothing at all is happening in countdown world. We have no debuts anywhere. The top 5 has not welcomed any debuts or re-entries for three weeks now. We did have a big jump, but that's about it.

Cut To The Blurb
The top 5 doesn't change except for Castle On The Hill and There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back swapping. I would have preferred Castle On The Hills at #1, and it seems as though I am alone in that prospect.

It Ain't Me is spending a lot of time at #6. It is still a fantastic song without Kygo, and I hope it can squeeze in one week at #1 before we get another dominator.

Body Like A Back Road is old. Seriously. How did it crack the top 10 five months after it was released? I mentioned before, so close to nobody like this song in the blogging community. Who is even voting for this song? I don't get it. Hopefully it can never peak higher than #7. Hopefully.

Paris re-entering the top 10 is rather disturbing. We need Attention to re-enter and for Despacito to finally crack it.

Feels seemed to have made a large jump on its second week. Great how good songs are appreciated sometimes. However, I have never heard this song on the radio. Not on Sirius XM, not on my local radio.

Bad Liar should leave the top 20 already. It is an awful song and it seems that many people agree with me.

Lights Down Low jumping even a bit makes my day.

So Crying In The Club is actually going to make some sort of appearance here, I hope? Because it is flopping everywhere else.

That's What I Like was #1 on my radio's weekend countdown this week.

Good Time Good Life should not be jumping.

We have had the same bottom 5 for ages. Leave us already!

Swalla having the biggest drop of the week twice in a row does not disturb me. Hopefully it can leave next week.

Wait... HandClap is still here?! What?!

Best for last, and I will not scream and rejoice because you all know how happy I am. This song deserves to be this high and it finally is.

I stretched the blurbs out today, since there was so little to say.
