Charlie Puth (1) - Week #34

Sorry for the delay. We have a new car and I had no time to transfer Sirius XM to that car. :( Also, I start school in a day, so yesterday I had to prepare. Also, my Russian school starts in two weeks, so this blog will most likely come out on Sunday every day from now on. Sorry for that. It really sucked that I didn't have time to do the blurbs last week because I had a lot to say. No matter. I will say it this week.

Comments on debuts:
One of our two somewhat old debuts is Glorious. The only reason that I still love this song is because of Skylar Grey. The chorus sounds fantastic! Skylar Grey sure can sing high and is one of the few people who according to me can. As for Macklemore, Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us were much better. I loved Macklemore in those songs because it was funny how fast he can sing. In Glorious he sings rather slow, so his parts are all boring. Although you have got to love the video.

I was 90% sure that Thunder would leave Hit-Bound. I haven't heard it in so long and it isn't popular anywhere else. The chorus is a little bit annoying now, but the verses are still catchy. I did review this a couple of times so I will leave it at that.

Hit-Bound

1. All-American Rejects - Sweat
2. Sabrina Carpenter - Why
3. Selena Gomez - Fetish
4. Cheat Codes/Demi Lovato - No Promises
5. Halsey - Bad At Love
6. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl
7. The Revivalists - Wish I Knew You
8. Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still
9. Andy Grammer - Give Love
10. Harry Styles - Two Ghosts
11. Justin Bieber/Bloodpop® - Friends (DEBUT)
12. Rita Ora - Your Song
13. PrettyMuch - Would You Mind (DEBUT)
14. Zedd/Liam Payne - Get Low

I was born for blurbs, born for blurbs, it's who I am, I couldn't forget
When I first heard Attention, I did not expect it to reach #1. However, I was not that surprised now since Charlie Puth hosted the countdown last week. I still like this song and it can stay at #1 for as long as it takes for Shawn Mendes to leave the top 10.

However, I would much rather have Believer at #1 than Attention since Believer is a fantastic alternative song and is (finally) popular on my local radio.

So Castle On The Hill replaces Shape Of You in the top 10. At this point I would prefer Shape Of You in the top 10.

The biggest jump and drop were boring this week and nothing unexpected.

It is no surprise for me to see Despacito out of the top 20 again. I have only heard it once on Hits 1 since it came out and I am surprised that a latin song got so far on Hits 1.

P!nk made a large jump from her debut spot of #33. Hopefully this can make the top 10 and maybe even squeeze in a week at #1 if it rises fast enough before Taylor Swift takes over.

It really is a surprise to see Hoodie jumping nine spots. I would never have predicted that this would have debuted ad made an impact so quickly. It doesn't even have a million views on youtube!

As for our exits, both of them were flops. Stay Together was much better than Malibu but I will probably forget both in about a year.

Top 20 score: 51%

Throwback pick of the week: Mariah Carey/Boys II Men - One Sweet Day (1995)
Most missed countdown song: OneRepublic - Counting Stars
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Axwell^Ingrosso - More Than You Know

5. Glorious

Bottom 5:
1. Wild Thoughts
2. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back

Shawn Mendes (4) - Week #33

This week was fantastic! We had some excellent drops, including the worst song on the countdown. We had two fabulous debuts which both debuted after one week on Hit-Bound. However, Shawn Mendes annoyingly returns to #1 for the fourth time. No week is ever perfect!

Biggest jump of the week: Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry (+19)
Biggest drop of the week: DJ Khaled/Rihanna/Bryson Tiller - Wild Thoughts (-17)

Comments on debuts:
I would never have guessed that Hoodie would have made the countdown, let alone after one week. For starters, the video doesn't even have 1 million views. However, I am not complaining! I always thought of Hey Violet as awful songwriters, and this song does not improve that reputation for me. However, the production is fantastic, and similarly to Guys My Age, you can simply ignore the lyrics because the song is super catchy. At the moment I still prefer Guys My Age. But once Hits 1 starts playing this some more I might prefer Hoodie.

P!nk is back after Just Like Fire from 2016. I'm going to start off and say that this song is not better than Just Like Fire. But P!nk has such a distinct and fantastic voice that it is impossible to dislike this song. The tune is catchy and her voice is greatly used. However, I can see this song growing out of me in a few months.

Hit-Bound
1. Selena Gomez - Fetish (DEBUT)
2. All-American Rejects - Sweat
3. Sabrina Carpenter - Why (DEBUT)
4. Macklemore/Skylar Grey - Glorious
5. Cheat Codes/Demi Lovato - No Promises
6. Imagine Dragons - Thunder
7. Halsey - Bad At Love
8. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl
9. The Revivalists - Wish I Knew You
10. Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still (DEBUT)[what the heck?]
11. Andy Grammer - Give Love
12. Harry Styles - Two Ghosts
13. Rita Ora - Your Song
14. Zedd/Liam Payne - Get Low

The only debut I'm going to talk about is Feel It Still. Similar to Talk Too Much, Hits 1 picks up on the alternative song after its rather long reing at #1 on Alt Nation. I loved this song when I first heard it a while ago. But now it is old.

I find it strange that Why debuted Hit-Bound but not Thumbs.

Sadly, we say goodbye to The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody). That was a fun song and a pity that is didn't debut.
What About Blurbs
I will not do blurbs since I lack time from a combination of things. Sorry :( Back next week.

Imagine Dragons (3) - Week #32

I did realize that we reached 5K pageviews already! Thank you to all the viewers! The special should be out some time next week.

Comments on debuts:
I talked about Praying and Honest and honestly I don't feel like reviewing them again. But here you go:

I still feel like the verses in Praying drag, and the piano is not used well. The final note before the chorus tortures me. But the chorus is so fantastic that I can't dislike this song. The chorus alone would make one of my favourite songs of the year. But the verses ruin the song.

Honest is a boring song. The chorus is really repetitive and annoying. Andrew Toggart sings better in Paris and Closer than in here. But the song has no major flaw, so I can't put this in pink. Once my radio realizes that The Chainsmokers have a new single, however, this will be in pink for sure.

When I think of Sorry Not Sorry, I think immediately of the awful chorus. The background voices do not match Demi Lovato's. The verses and build up are great. But the chorus ruins it all. It does not suit Demi Lovato. It is much too loud and Demi cannot scream. Similar to Most Girls, I expected more from the chorus.

Hit-Bound
4. Macklemore/Skylar Grey - Glorious
2. The All American Rejects - Sweat
8. P!NK - What About Us (DEBUT)
5. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl
3. Cheat Codes/Demi Lovato - No Promises (DEBUT) 7. Imagine Dragons - Thunder 6. Halsey - Bad At Love (DEBUT) 10. The Revivalists - Wish I Knew You 13. Rita Ora - Your Song 14. Zedd/Liam Payne - Get Low 11. Andy Grammer - Give Love 9. Bebe Rexha - The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody)
1. Hey Violet - Hoodie (DEBUT) 12. Harry Styles - Two Ghosts

-We say goodbye to Reminding Me. This song actually peaked at #3 on my personal chart, and this song really is unique. The lyrics, the collaboration, the production really aren't waht you normally see. The song itself is really catchy. So far, this earns my Lights Over Paris award for 2017.

I hope your soul is blurbin'
Our top 10 had very little action this week. However, Despacito entered the top 3 finally, after 13 weeks atop the Billboard hot 100. Hopefully this can hit #1 soon.

However, I would be delighted if Believer kept preventing Shawn Mendes from returning to #1. Imagine Dragons have done really well on this one. Hopefully this can stay at #1 for a bit longer.

Body Like A Back Road is still going strong...

Two songs previously in the top 10 made sizable drops. The Cure is old and should have left a long time ago.

Now Or Never should soon be replaced by Bad At Love, which is much better. Halsey was my favourite female artist for a long time. She has come up with fantastic songs (New Americana, Colours, The Feeling, and so on). Now Or Never is not one of these masterpieces.

I listened to Victorious this past week and I realized how much better it is than L.A. Devotee and Death Of A Bachelor. Similar to 5SOS, I feel that Hits 1 is the only station that recognizes Panic! At The Disco.

I did not expect One More Light to rise so quickly. It is a bad song. Even if Chester Bennington died I cannot find a spot of quality in this song as there is in Battle Symphony.

Every time Hits 1 announces Ear Poppin' Music they play Good Times. I thought it would enter the top 10 for sure.

Champion is now my favourite song of them all and should hit the top 10 before I go nuts. Hits 1 is supposed to worship Fall Out Boy!

I was shocked out of my head when I didn't hear Lights Down Low until #21. Could this song possibly hit the top 20 as I dream so much?

I was 90% sure that Weak would leave and that Back To You would enter the top 20. Instead, now we have Weak more popular than Back To You.

I'll take Uh Huh over Issues any day. Uh Huh is now yellow. It is so catchy!

I'm glad to see that I'm The One didn't continue its rise.

Hopefully Closer can pull a Stressed Out and leave after 51 weeks. Stressed Out was so much better than Closer and The Chainsmokers do not deserve a song that lasts a year.

The whole of our bottom 3 songs are fantastic.

Top 20 score:

Top 5:
1. Champion
2. Lights Down Low
3. Back To You
4. Crying In The Club
5. Heavy

Bottom 5:
1. Wild Thoughts

4. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back
5. Bad Liar

Imagine Dragons (2) - Week #31

#1 song this week one year ago: Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop The Feeling! (7/10) Biggest jump!!! of the week: Linkin Park - One More Light (+21)
Biggest drop!!! of the week: Selena Gomez - Bad Liar (-18)

Comments on debut:
Uh Huh is my guilty pleasure of the year by a landslide. I have absolutely no idea why I like it. I can't say anything at all except I like it. Similar to Redbone, I couldn't formulate an opinion because the song confused me. I guess what I can say is that the verses are catchy, but that's all, really.

Hit-Bound
1. All-American Rejects - Sweat
2. Macklemore/Skylar Grey - Glorious
3. Kesha - Praying
4. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl
5. Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens - Reminding Me
6. Imagine Dragons - Thunder
7. Bebe Rexha - The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody)
8. Andy Grammer - Give Love
9. Rita Ora - Your Song (DEBUT)
10. Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry
11. Paramore - Hard Times
12. The Chainsmokers - Honest
13. Harry Styles - Two Ghosts
14. Zedd/Liam Payne - Get Low

During the second session, Hits 1 played The Revivalists - Wish I knew You (to be placed next week) and got rid of Paramore - Hard Times.

But I know it's by blurbs going in for the kill
I'm going backwards this time, since I am looking up the countdown on the website. I want to be on time this week!

HandClap finally left the countdown 498 days after its release. I love that song about 100 days after its release. This goes to show that Hits 1 is late with every song except OneDirection, Fall Out Boy and 5SOS.

I actually hoped Sooner Or Later would just leave than die a slow and painful death. Same goes with Lights Down Low, Stay Together and Crying In The Club. You guys made this year better but Hits 1 doesn't think that.

We had three big drops this week. Bad Liar and Weak falling out of the top 30 made me rejoice. That's What I Like spent enough time up there and is no longer popular.

The last time I heard Closer on the radio was in June. It should be long gone.

DJ Khaled jumped up a combined value of 21 spots with his two awful songs. These songs aren't Hits 1 songs. They shouldn't be popular.

However, Linkin Park managed to jump 21 spots with a single song, One More Light. I explained my position on this song last week, but I expected a big jump anyway.

I also expect Back To You to jump quite a bit, since it is Louis Tomlinson! And it did, thank goodness, and by twelve spots! Hopefully it can make it into the top 5 like all other OneDirection songs except Sign Of The Times.

I was actually really happy when I saw that Castle On The Hill fell 10 spots.

Shape Of You will never get old for me.

How is The Cure this popular? It had its run already.

Selena Gomez had the biggest drop of the week two times in a row with both her songs. Is that a sign that Fetish will come her soon?

There are three purples for these reasons:
i. Sooner Or Later was extremely underrated;
ii. Back To You is an exceptionally catchy song;
iii. Champion is technically purple, being the highest on My Weekly Preferences.
